Prototype Design (Part 2) : Battle Royale

<<< link to the previous part
In this section, I'm going to discuss about my team's game design prototype progress...

Well, first of all, my team consists of 4 person:
Dillan Martin (FuwaFuwa Mochi) link to journal
Lin Che An (LinCheAn) link to journal
Jansen (verguzjansen) link to journal
and me : Hansel Gunarto (alphablu3)

Our game is still in prototype, the playable physical game is being developed. In this part of journal, I am going to discuss about the pace of the game, and how the game should be played by every players. The game should be played with the minimum of 5 players and the maximum of 10 players. This game would be played as text-based board game. What is text-based board game? I will discuss about that by how the way the game will be played.
Here's how; the game needs to have game master(s) to lead the progress of the game, and to determine each movements of the players. Well, all of the players should be able to see the map by projecting the map or somehow to make the players fully understand the place. In this game, each players take turns for every of their movements. They have to take notes to sent them into the game master(s) to tell the game master(s) about their movements.

As of you who haven't seen, here's the map for our game design:

As for the strategy, however the game is based on communication between players. The player's objective is to kill the other players and being the last one to survive, while they can actually make alliance with the other players or break the alliance through communication. By aiming to be the last one to survive, in other words each alliance they made is decided with their enemies. Sad huh? But that's how it's done to make you survive. Battlefield is an unforgiving place.
Our team members have discussed about how the message could be possible to be delivered. Well, the participant can create several accounts for social messenger like Windows Live Messenger judging by how many participants are there including the players and the game masters. Each time there are two players met in certain distance, they are allowed to make contact with each other. So in other words, they can initiate communication through the particular messenger.

So are you interested with this game concept? Stay tuned on our game design journal to find out of our updates on the game!

Quest: Tower of Babel

Do you know about the Tower of Babel? It's a biblical story from the Book of Genesis which explains while the earth had only one language.

It's found in Genesis chapter 11 verse 1 to 8, which describes the humanity of generations before the Great Flood travels from the east of the land called Shinar and they settled there to make a city with a tower that reaches to heavens. It's not written for what purpose did they make the tower which could reach heaven (maybe because they want to see what heaven looks like? or maybe they wanted to surpass God.). So God came down to see the world of what these people do, and God said that they were speaking the same language to begin with, so He confused their language so that they will not understand each other. Then the human cannot communicate with the others, so they left the building and called it Babel which means God confounded the language of all the Earth. Since the God confounded the language of all the Earth, the tower building stopped.

Here, I recently made a game concept which have some sort of relevant to the particular story. The game concept was  made purposely for board games or computer games. It's a turn based game with unique game rules which are never been made before. The game can only be played with one person only.
The challenge is to build the Tower of Babel as high as possible before the time runs out. Why the time can ru out? Well you can guess, it's the time when the God confounded the language of the earth. The turns in this game is explained as weeks, which means every turn the player made, the week increases. The player can have 200 weeks before the God confounded the Earth language.
The player controls resource worker, where they must gather the resources which are found all over the area of the map to deliver them into the builder team (which stays at the tower to build). They must gather all of the required resources (wood, brick. and metal) and deliver them, so that the builder team can start the building. The score is measured by how tall the tower is judging by the levels of the tower. Every time the builders completed their building, the level is increased by 1. One thing for sure, the resource gatherers can have limited sights, it's 5 tile of sights around them. They can see through walls as well. However, they cannot pass through walls. They can move 2 tiles for the clear path, but 1 tile for rough path or resource path.

So what do you think? Are you interested to try this game? Well I can provide you guys with the map of the game. Of course the player cannot see the entire maps, only 5 tiles of their current position.

W = Woods
B = Bricks
M = Metals
White = Clear Path
Orange = Rough Path
